The Bivouac Colts, made up of 4 young superstars Ryan Thompson, JJ Wilson, Bex Law & Dayne McKnight competed and completed the Godzone Adventure Race held in Fiordland last week, being one of the youngest teams to finish a full Adventure race in their category. The Bivouac Colts were the final team to complete the full course (with all other teams swapping to an intermediate or short course due to injuries, time limitations or abilities) and they crossed the finish line after a gruelling 124 hours in rugged and exposed Fiordland terrain.

The Godzone Adventure began on Monday morning with a brisk 6.30am start sea kayaking into Milford Sound and ended with a champagne spray and well earnt pizza and burger combo from some of Queenstown’s best establishments. The Adventure Race started with 31 teams on Day 1, of which 10 completed the full AR course (including the Colts), 5 on the intermediate and another 4 on the short course. The Colts used equipment supplied by Bivouac to complete the challenge with packs from Osprey, Trekking Poles from Black Diamond, food from Back Country Cuisine, Clothing from Icebreaker, Salomon shoes and Waterproofing from Outdoor Research to name just a bit of kit they had in their arsenal!
After 126km of trekking, 279km of mountain biking, 117km of kayaking and over 12,000m of ascent via the optimum routes, the Godzone Adventure brought out the best teams from across the globe to compete against the clock and against the conditions for the ultimate pride of winning the 1st race in the World AR Championships. A team full of New Zealand athletes scooped the win with a 15 hour lead over the finish line. Team Seagate claimed this prize and are ranked 2nd in the World after missing out on a win in Patagonia last year when a penalty decision went against them.
